Awami National Party (ANP)
Awami National Party (ANP) is a secular, democratic political party in Pakistan with its roots in Pashtun nationalist politics. The party draws ideological inspiration from Bacha Khan (Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan) and was formally established in 1986.
ANP follows a left-leaning and progressive ideology, advocating for democracy, federalism, provincial autonomy, social justice, and peaceful coexistence. The party strongly supports non-violence, cultural rights, and the protection of ethnic and linguistic identities, particularly of the Pashtun population.
The party has had a significant political presence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and has participated in both provincial and federal governments. ANP is also recognized for its firm stance against extremism and its commitment to parliamentary democracy, making it an important voice in Pakistan’s political landscape.
