Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P)
Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) is a political party with a strong urban base, particularly in Karachi and other urban areas of Sindh. The party traces its origins to the Mohajir movement and was founded in the 1980s under the leadership of Altaf Hussain. Following internal and organizational changes, the party now operates as MQM-Pakistan.
MQM-P primarily focuses on urban governance, local government empowerment, and the political rights of urban communities, especially Urdu-speaking populations. The party advocates for decentralization of power, improved municipal services, fair representation, and administrative reforms in metropolitan areas.
Over the years, MQM-P has played a significant role in coalition governments at the federal and provincial levels, making it an important stakeholder in Pakistan’s parliamentary politics. Despite facing political challenges and internal restructuring, MQM-Pakistan continues to remain a notable force in urban politics and local governance debates.
